Creating content from scratch

While TAO Studio provides content conversion and generation capabilities, the standard TAO item and test editors remain available for creating and customizing questions and tests using the full range of authoring features.

Important: Note that questions and items created from scratch are stored solely in the library; but will not be part of or retrievable from a project. For more information on tagging, see the section below.

Creating a test from scratch

To author a test using the TAO test editor, from the sidebar menu select Create questions & tests > From scratch. Select Test under Content type.

For more information, see Creating a test using the editor.

Creating an item from scratch

To author a brand-new question, from the sidebar menu select Create questions & tests > From scratch. Select Question under Content type.

For more information, see Creating an item from scratch.

Tagging content

Important: It is recommended to add metadata tags immediately after creating an item or test from scratch.

Items and tests that are created from scratch follow a different metadata setup than other file types in TAO Studio. To add metadata to an item you created:

  1. Navigate to the library after saving your item.

  2. Once you have located the item, select the eclipses action menu on the left (under the Action column).

  3. Click Edit tags.

  4. Enter metadata values into the prompts. The metadata categories that display are configured in Studio Settings.
