Batteries

The TAO Portal provides a beta version of a feature that allows test administrators to combine several test deliveries into a single entity. These entities (delivery combinations) are known as batteries.

There are two ways to configure the deliveries within a battery:

  • Configure them in sequence, where the test-taker will complete each delivery in the order defined in the battery.

  • Randomly select one single delivery from those listed in the battery to be launched for the test taker.

For more information on how to create a delivery, see the following topics:

Benefits

  • Sequential batteries define a strict order for test takers to complete linked assessments.

  • Batteries with randomly selected deliveries ensures that not all test takers within a group are completing the same exact assessment.

  • Batteries (in general) allow easier manipulation and correction of deliveries: since the test-takers are assigned to batteries, instead of deliveries or sessions, if one of previously assigned deliveries needs to be updated, or even replaced, this can be done easily by adding its replacement on top or instead of the current delivery within the battery. This way, any new test taker will automatically be exposed to the new delivery, without the need to change the way they start the assessment.

This is becoming even more important in the context of launching the assessments from a third-party platform, such as an LMS, as it doesn’t require changing the launch link for the assessment.

Enabling Batteries

  1. Log in to the TAO Portal.

  2. In the top-right corner of the Portal interface, select the circular button with your initials. In the menu that displays, select My account.

  3. Navigate to the Beta Features tab.

  4. Toggle the Beta features option.

  5. Toggle the Batteries option.
